..so many priceless comments ...praise dog!
i tried searching for this site by entering "jehovahs-witness.com" and this site did not come up on the first page !
it was jw dot org etc all the way down !.
how can we change this ?.
yup --- could prolly count their hours to.
... you are told to trust the slave as you do jehovah and jesus..
...If you haven´t seen your grandchildren in years and they live five miles away
just watched ' one of us' on netflix about individuals who are trying to leave the hasidic orthodox jewish faith group (a high control group within judaism).. i found it interesting as those who rebel or leave are virtually ostracized from their community.
the documentary is an eye opener into their highly insular community.
one of the things i thought interesting is that there is a support group called footsteps to help hasidic jews wanting to leave the strict insular way of life so that they can move on with their lives.. this got me thinking.
Please report what you learn - there is certainly a need.
i am interested in the approach this forum takes to money.
apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.
There are serious factors contributing to world poverty that an ¨"equalization of cash" can´t fix and may possibly make worse.
War - imagine if every hate filled religious lunatic world wide had $33,000 to pool into cult, hatred, jihad, proselytizing, - power is the currency here not money.
Overpopulation - we are on the brink of extinction right now because we already consume more than the world can supply - $33,000 of "security" could lead to more reproduction, not less...
Environmental destruction - is $33,000 given to a consumer society likely to go to even more consumerism/profit at the expense of the natural world..
Not trying to be negative. In fact I admire your idealism and how you express it.
i am in the process of writing to parliament about the practice of shunning by jehovah's witnesses.
what i need to clarify if the practice is 'specifically' mentioned in any of the books used for bible study/ recruitment leading up to baptism?.
i would be grateful if anyone could clarify this in case i get my facts wrong when writing my letter..
The page from JW / org (posted by jwleaks above) is a classic example of WT intellectual dishonesty.
The question asks if "...former members..¨" are shunned.
The immediate answer describes not a former member but a current (but inactive) congregation member.
This dishonest sleight of hand is intended to deceive the general public unaware of WT intricate labelling system. The deflection of attention gives the earliest possible way of getting the words "...are not shunned¨" into print in the opening sentence.
A possibly truthful answer but not to the question asked ! - lying WT weasels
...which was kind of her.
i find i like most christians, even mormons, and jw's.. she sent me a leaflet, which asks: where can we find the answers to life's big questions?
science?

Really enjoyed your post - both intelligent and humorous "...believing six impossible things before breakfast." yuk yuk
How to survive ? seems the ultimate big question, and has as many successful "answers" throughout history as there are persons who have ever lived fulfilling lives.
Our finite lifespans reframe the colossal, ponderous, big question into day to day necessities (and pleasures) that obviate any one particular truthful answer.
Cheers

As long as you are a willing member of a religion you are subject to that religions in house ecclesiastic authority . JW baptism confirms your cult membership.
Freedom of Religion laws give rights to both those who practice religion and those who wish to leave a religion.
Since religious activity is a personal and voluntary activity there are no legal requirements that need to be met to join, explore, change or abandon any religion.
Your acceptance of ecclesiastic authority "Started" when you chose to be baptized. and, until you engineer a defining "Stop" you are viewed as a member.
The good news is you aren´t legally required to inform anyone at all about your decisions in this voluntary/personal enterprise. Nor give reasons, or write letters or meet with elders - but you do have to stop being a JW to stop being treated as one.
Ecclesiastic authority applied to former members would then violate ones freedoms of religion
